General FAQs
Are you open to the public all year round?
We're a working farm, not a visitor attraction in the traditional sense. We open to the public for specific events throughout the year - including Open Farm Sunday in June, our Summer Maize Maze from July to September, and Pick Your Own Pumpkins in October. The best way to hear about dates and ticket releases first is to sign up to our mailing list.
Where are you?
We're on the farm just outside Rodmell, near Lewes in East Sussex. The postcode is BN7 3FE and the What3Words address is ///factually.fallen.tourist.
Do I need to book in advance?
It depends on the event. Open Farm Sunday is free to attend but requires advance booking via the website - we need to know numbers ahead of the day. For the Maize Maze and Pick Your Own Pumpkins, you can turn up on the day, but we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment if we sell out.
What are the opening times for each event?
Opening times vary by event:
Open Farm Sunday — Sunday 14 June, 2pm–5pm (free, booking required)
Summer Maize Maze — 18 July to 6 September, Thursday to Sunday, 10am–5pm (last entry 3pm)
Pick Your Own Pumpkins — dates to be announced; sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear
How much does it cost?
Again, this varies by event. Open Farm Sunday is completely free. For the Maize Maze, tickets are £9 per person, with a family ticket (4 people) for £32 - under 3s are free. A portion of proceeds from the Maize Maze goes to the East Sussex Farmers' Benevolent Fund. Pick Your Own Pumpkin pricing will be announced closer to the season.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash and card (debit and credit).
Where do I park?
Free parking is available in a grass field on site. Please drive carefully - there will be children around and the ground can be uneven. We'd ask that you don't leave dogs or valuables in your car. South Farm Rodmell cannot accept liability for theft or damage to vehicles or possessions in the car park.
Is the site accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs?
The paths are wide enough for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Please be aware, though, that the ground is unsurfaced, and can be uneven and after rain it can get muddy and difficult to navigate. We have a wheelchair-accessible portable loo on site.
Can I bring my dog?
Well-behaved dogs on a non-extendable lead are welcome in the outdoor areas of the site. Please bring bags to clear up after them. Dogs are not permitted inside the Maize Maze itself due to the disease risk to our cattle, who eat the crop over winter.
What should I wear?
Trainers or boots are ideal in dry weather. After rain, we'd recommend wellies - the ground can get muddy. Dress for the forecast: sunhats and sun cream on warm days, and waterproofs if there's any chance of rain.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We may need to close if heavy rain has made the paths or car park unsafe. If that happens, we'll contact anyone who has booked in advance. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on the day.
Is there food and drink available on site?
Yes - our coffee box will be on site during events, offering hot drinks and light refreshments. You're also welcome to bring your own picnic. If you do, bring a blanket to sit on and please take ALL your rubbish home with you.
Are there toilets on site?
Yes - we have portable loos on site, including one for wheelchair users.
Do you keep lost property?
Yes. We hold lost property until the end of each season. If you've lost something, email us at SFRMaizeMaze@gmail.com with a full description and we'll let you know if we have it.
Who do I contact with a question?
Email us at SFRMaizeMaze@gmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
